During your stay at The Oasis in Seattle, you will quickly learn from those who live here what there is to do just outside the city, in easy day trips. Here are just a few of our favorite Seattle area day trip destinations.
For those who enjoy a physical regimen, the 40+ mile Burke Gilman Trail winds through some of the most beautiful areas of Seattle, starting in the northern central waterfront and leading north around the eastern side of Lake Washington. It’s a wide paved pathway, with limited exposure to street traffic, so you can walk or run sections of the trail, or bike the whole thing in relative peace and quiet.
Or take a drive south and visit the still-fuming Mt. St. Helens, which last blew its top in 1981, or enjoy the expansive views from almost halfway up majestic Mt. Rainier. There are two visitor centers at the end of the road, one on the east side of the mountain, and one on the west side. They have your sunrise and sunset covered. Gorgeous!
Although they can be crowded with Seattle’s weekend warriors during the summer months, you can take ferries to the two closest islands across Puget Sound (Bainbridge and Vashon islands) from Colman Dock on Seattle’s downtown central waterfront, or drive north 15 miles and take the ferry from Mukilteo to Whidbey Island. Each island has its own charm and beauty, and each is well within reach for a day’s excursion.
There is skiing and hiking galore in both the Cascades and Olympic Mountains. The Cascades are the closest to the city, but we encourage you to travel to Port Angeles and make the spectacular drive up to Hurricane Ridge. The views of the Olympics are unparalleled from one of its most prominent peaks.
Over the next few months, we will present these and other area day trips in greater detail. They are bound to make your Seattle visit all the more enjoyable and memorable. The locals can only enjoy these day trips as weekend warriors, but as a visitor, you’ll be able to enjoy these excursions any day of the week! This area has something special to offer in every season, so book your stay at The Oasis today.
